More frequent spills of fuel oil in Podurinj, Municipality of Kostrena, INA still does not know where the spills come from!

At the Žmergo Association’s Green phone on April the 27th citizens reported that in the coastal area around Urinj in Kostrena (harbor Podurinj) fuel oil has been spilt into the sea. Žmergo immediately reported the said incident to the competent services (Inspection of Environmental Protection, Water Management Inspectorate and the inspection at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure).

Via the Green phone in April this year, Green Osijek has received citizens’ reports of material damage (the place of Privlaka, not far from Vinkovci) resulted from treating of PIK's sunflower fields with herbicides for broadleaf weeds.

Locals claim that the company PIK Vinkovci when spraying their fields with herbicides also harmed the neighboring crops of locals and destroyed many gardens, vegetable gardens, orchards and other crops in the range of 1.5 km from the treated fields of sunflowers as well.

A huge problem encountered by almost all of the smaller cities in Slavonia is drainage, i.e. a partial or complete lack of the public sewerage system for domestic waste water.

On the greater part of our counties septic tanks are in use, which, by its capacity, often do not satisfy needs, and often are "cleverly" designed and made with a porous bottom, so that they do not have to be discharged often.

Via the Green Phone we received a report from a citizen in May, that Hrvatske vode initiated the development of preliminary design of retention and geodetic project in the area of Tupaljski stream and waterfall Sopot, which, of course, concerned the citizens, organisations, biologists and experts.

Namely, that area belongs to the Ecological Network (Natura 2000), in particular to the Areas of conservation important for species and habitats (POVS), code HR2001365 Pazinština, and it is also the habitat of a strictly protected species Veliki vodenjak (Great Crested Newt).

We have received reports from several residents of the hamlet Raškovići near Knin on the Green Phone due to a collapsed bridge over the river Butižnica. Since shepherds with animals (sheep, goats, etc.) cross the collapsed bridge every day for pasture, a real danger of tragic outcome is present every day. The recently collapsed bridge began to be crossed by the children and other residents of the hamlet Raškovići, as well as other citizens of Knin and its surroundings, and therefore the situation is extremely alarming.

How important is to advise the citizens and encourage them to actively participate in the protection of nature is proven by the case in Gazije.

In September this year, the construction of the road through the village began. In parallel with the construction of the road, the concreting of the stream started, in a place where the stream used to flood part of the road. In addition to the described stream, the sleeve of the stream is also running through the village. The contractor decided to fill in the sleeve in order to facilitate and accelerate the implementation of works.

We have received a report from the resident of Posedarje concerning the unloading of faeces in the open pit having a diameter of 20 x 20 in which the septic tanks are unloaded from all the surrounding villages, and unbearable stench spreads around the village (especially because the pit is open).

The Dalmatian area more frequently encounters problems concerning land reclamation. With the growth of the tourist season, and thus by the possibility of greater earnings, this problem becomes more pronounced.

So, over the past year, we received sever cases of land reclamations concerning the coast - beaches, promenades and the like via the line of Green Phone of the Association Sunce.

Nasipavanje obale

In May 2015, we received yet another call via the Green Phone of Eko Pan regarding the discharge of faeces into the channel for rainwater which in this way end up directly in the river Korana in Malići.

In September, the Association Sunce received a report via the Green phone of inappropriate behaviour of jet-ski drivers in the protected canyon of the river Cetina in Omiš.

Specifically, this is about uncontrolled driving through the canyon of the river, which is usually noticeable during the summer by many tourists who are attracted to this area because of the beauty of the landscape and developing activist tourism.
