Light pollution in Osijek
Recently, the Green Phone Association Green Osijek received reports of light pollution.
According to the words of a caller, the spotlights advertising company H1 that have recently been put into function far exceed the permitted standards and disturb all the tenants residing in the surrounding houses and buildings in particular.
We visited the location in the evening hours and convinced ourselves of the allegations. The said company has been warned about the problem, however, it did not react to it. We contacted the municipal services department of the City of Osijek, and we were informed that the controversial advertisement has been placed with the consent of the City.
We then passed the case to the Environmental Inspection. Reflectors unfortunately have not been removed but the level of lighting is regulated. Light pollution is a change in the level of natural light in night conditions caused by the emission of light from artificial light sources that adversely affects the human health. Protection against the light pollution pursuant to the Act on the Protection from Light Pollution (“Official Gazette” no. 14/11) is achieved by the measures of protection from unnecessary, useless or harmful emissions of light and measures of protecting the night sky from excessive illumination.
Is there a real need for such advertising in block settlements in this case or financial gain, as usual, had an advantage in opposition to the rights and needs of the citizens.
