In May 2015, we received yet another call via the Green Phone of Eko Pan regarding the discharge of faeces into the channel for rainwater which in this way end up directly in the river Korana in Malići.

The problem of disposal of sewage water in places where there is no built public sewerage system becomes more prominent in Karlovačka County. Irresponsible individuals who have an obligation to build septic tanks and its regular cleaning, very often their waste water and sewage is discharged directly into the environment or into the channels for rainwater drainage, which almost always end up in one of the rivers in the area of Karlovačka County.

After received report and collection of the necessary information, we decided to report it to the Water Rights Inspection Service and Sanitary Inspection. Given that the actions of Sanitary Inspection for the area of the city of Karlovac and the county are considered very bad due to previous experiences, we have decided to send the report directly to the Ministry of Health and the Department of Sanitary Inspection, which covers the area of central Croatia.

Unfortunately, although four rivers and a number of small watercourses flow through the area of the city of Karlovac and the county, since 2009 the Water Rights Inspection Service does not have its local regional unit. Eko Pan points to this problem for many years, since it has been shown that in the case of accidents, Water Rights Inspection Service with headquarters in Zagreb cannot supervise the watercourses in the Karlovačka county in a quality way. With regard to the large number of watercourses which are particularly under "pressure" during the summer months, it is difficult to understand the decision to cancel the Water Rights Inspection Service, based in the city of Karlovac.

Unfortunately, neither the other parts of the system which should have controlled the actions concerning waters in the county function, primarily referring to water guards who are completely inaccessible to citizens in case of incidents. We are still waiting for the responses of inspection services, solving of the problem and punishment of those irresponsible individuals.
